How it may help with lymphedema
Lymphedema happens when the lymphatic system has difficulty moving fluid, which can cause swelling. When appropriate, lymphatic drainage massage may help encourage fluid movement away from swollen areas and ease feelings of heaviness, tightness, or discomfort.
Massage is often one part of a broader lymphedema care plan, which may also include compression and exercise. It does not cure lymphedema, and care should be tailored to each person.
How it may help with lipedema
Lipedema involves an abnormal buildup of fatty tissue, often in the legs and sometimes the arms. It may also cause tenderness, easy bruising, and a feeling of heaviness.
Lymphatic drainage massage does not remove lipedema fat. However, for some people, it may help encourage lymph fluid movement and ease fluid-related swelling, heaviness, or discomfort. It can be one part of a personalized approach to managing symptoms.

Lymphatic drainage massage uses light, measured movements and is different from deep-tissue massage.
