During recovery, you may notice:
- Swelling that changes throughout the day
- Areas that feel firm or tight
- Puffiness
- Temporary unevenness
- A felling of heaviness
- Changes from one week to the next
That doesn’t necessarily mean something has gone wrong. Your body is still healing.
Where Does Lymphatic Drainage Massage Fit In?
Lymphatic drainage massage is very different from a traditional deep massage.
It uses gentle, specialized movements designed to encourage lymphatic fluid movement. When appropriate and approved by your surgeon, it may be incorporated into a post-surgical recovery plan.
Timing matters. Technique matters. And every surgery and every patient is different.
That’s why post-surgical massage should never be approached as “one massage fits all.”

New or worsening swelling, redness, warmth, fever, significant pain, shortness of breath or anything else that concerns you should be discussed promptly with your medical provider.
